Mekong River

One of the best things to do in Laos is to go on a slow boat journey along the amazing Mekong River. The best port to start from is Huay Xai where the green hills of Bokeo create a stunning backdrop.

Vang Vieng

If you are into outdoor activities like rafting, trekking, cycling and motorbike rides then this is a place for you. The cliffs and caves around here make it the perfect place to rock climb. Some people might say Vang Vieng's lost its soul but there are plenty of methamphetamine shakes around town with prohibited ingredients such as marijuna, magic mushrooms, opium and a bit of yaba. Some people have theses as entrees before a long night out in the local bars and even a longer night in the cells if you are caught. Drugs in Asia are illegal.

Luang Pabang

Probably Laos's most colourful city, Luang Prabang is a place where you can admire the golden wats (temples). This beautiful spot is located at the confluence of the Khan and Mekong rivers and is surrounded by mountains. This is more a destination for temple and architecture lovers.

Vientiane

The boulevards and grand mansions of Laos's capital are indicative of the French influence on this part of the world. Why not start with a taste of Vientiane's international cuisine washed down with a beer Lao. Check out the famous Buddha Park and the Pha That Luang monument which is a national symbol for the Buddhist religion and the Lao sovereignty. Grab a Lao massage a the Papaya Spa and make sure you rise early next morning to stroll around the markets.
